Alternative Fuel Vehicles We Service:

Biodiesel is a bio-fuel specifically for diesel engines. It is the first and only EPA-designated “Advanced Biofuel” in commercial-scale production. It is made from recycled soybean oil, cooking oil, animal fats, and other feed-stocks. Biodiesel is produced around the country to meet stringent technical fuel quality and engine performance specifications – so much so that it can be used in tandem with diesel fuel to power existing diesel engines at a mix of 5-20% biodiesel. Advanced Diagnostics performs Biodiesel Engine Maintenance. Maintaining biodiesel vehicle engines is very similar to maintaining standard diesel engines. However there are a number of things to be aware of which are specific to biodiesel cars and trucks.

  1. Algae Growth – In warm and humid environments, algae can grow and live in bio-diesel fuel lines and tanks. This may sound outrageous, but biodiesel is a bio product after all, and algae are surprisingly adept at surviving – so be sure to keep your bio fuel filter clean!
  2. Sludge – Sludge build up is a concern for any diesel engines, not just bio diesel engines. Bio-diesel does have a different effect on it though. Biodiesel acts similar to a detergent when it comes into contact with fuel tank sludge. This causes the sludge to loosen and suspend itself in the fuel, allowing it to get sucked in the fuel lines and clog the fuel filter.

Flex fuel vehicles can run on fuel blend made up of up to 85% ethanol or standard, unleaded gasoline. They are largely identical to gas-only vehicles, and even perform nearly the same as well. One key consideration is that ethanol contains less energy than gasoline, and as more flex fuel is needed to travel the same distance when compared to gasoline-only engines. As the popularity of flex fuel cars continues to grow, more and more gas stations are becoming equipped with flex-fuel options at the pump. New vehicle window stickers show how far you will run on a tank of each type of fuel.

Flex Fuel Vehicle Maintenance. Maintaining your flex fuel car or truck is pretty much identical to maintaining any other gasoline vehicle. Just be sure to get your fluids changed regularly!

Cars and trucks that run on “compressed natural gas”(CNG) or “natural gas,” are most often running on compressed methane. Both CNG and propane are relatively clean burning and accessible fuel sources, and are often used in vehicles that are used regularly for long-distance load carrying. With the natural gas energy industry booming, several automobile manufacturers are looking to offer natural gas cars and trucks straight from the factory.

Maintaining Natural Gas and Propane Vehicles requires  special training and attention. Engines running on CNG or propane require high pressure systems, including storage tanks and regulators, to manage the flow of gas into the engine. Be sure to have these parts inspected as part of your regular natural gas vehicle maintenance process.  For your convenience all service at ADS includes inspection of these systems in your natural gas vehicles.
